Is There a Goddess in Your Life?

Standard

My energy returned yesterday like an unexpected gift.  The narrow focus that had been plaguing me widened, and (there’s no other way to put it)… I felt like a phoenix rising from the ashes.

When I pondered about what to share/explore/create today I realized that I have done enough looking inward as of late.  I am savoring this revived skip in my step, and I want to connect with others.

My last Portrait of a Goddess post was almost a month ago, and although there are many more goddesses in my life who I could post about, the thought came to me that perhaps I should ask others to share the goddesses in their lives.

I have been a guest blogger a few times in my five months of blogging, however; this is my first go at hosting a guest blogger on Deliciously Alive.  I am excited… and a little nervous/self-conscious.  (Will anyone want to participate?)  Either way, I am willing to take the risk.  The fire on my newly lit candle of energy burned even brighter when the idea came to me… and I want to keep it going.

So! If you have a goddess in your life, please share her (…or him! Hey, guys can be goddesses in their own right! :) )

I linked the four Portrait of a Goddess posts I have previously shared to give everyone an idea of the format… but feel free to be creative! These are just for example purposes.

Portrait of a Goddess: Kara

Standard

It is a goddess’s birthday today…

I am lucky enough to be related to this incredible woman. Her name is Kara and her mother is my father’s youngest sibling.

(The Scheble siblings. My dad is on the very left, and Kara’s mom is on the very right.)

My cousin is 5 years and 10 months younger than me, but even when she was 15 and I was 21, we connected.  We found common ground in music, mayhem, life philosophy… and eye-shadow.

Kara’s style is unique and she pulls it off without effort…

Her creativity shines through in more than just her look… she is also an artist.

Her talent transfers into the decor that surrounds her…

A true goddess all her life…

A sister and a daughter…

… and so much more…

Happy 24th birthday, lovely. <3

…and please check out Kara’s ETSY site (which is also linked under “Blogroll”)… beautiful jewelry created by a beautiful person…

Portrait of a Goddess: Mom

Standard

As my 20′s come to a close, I feel consistently more grateful. One of the things I am most grateful for is my mom and our relationship.

We have come a long way with our style!

Looking back, I see so much of myself in her…

My mom, who has taught me what it truly means to be a goddess… has also taught me many other incredible lessons…

The magic of the holidays…

… How to be a true friend…

… How to make wonderful foods and be an amazing hostess…

… How to have fun…

… What being a “dog person” really is… (love these members of our family)

… How to have a beautiful and loving relationship…

… What being a wonderful mom really is…

I hope one day I can be even half the mom that mine is to me…

… and I still feel the same way I did in 1992 when I was ten years old and wrote this for her… :)

Portrait of a Goddess: Lisa

Standard

I had the pleasure of meeting Lisa today.  Some know her as “The Bio-Mat Lady”.  She is an energetic and kind spirit who made me feel at home in her office in Dunnellon, Florida.

Lisa grew up in Connecticut, just as my mother did… that knowledge made us smile, reinforcing that there are connections between all of us.  She started diving at eight years-old, entering national competitions by the time she was fifteen.  She continued to dive through her third year of college.

After diving for over twelve years, the ten hour training days took their toll on Lisa’s back.  She suffered for years due to the agonizing pain caused from two herniated discs, it would often leave her bed-ridden.  Three and a half years ago, Lisa’s sister urged her to try the Bio-Mat.  I will provide a link to Lisa’s site at the end of this post, which thoroughly describes all aspects of what the Bio-Mat can do and what it has done for her.  She is now pain free and takes no medications.  A previous candidate for surgery (in the opinion of health professionals) Lisa now lives an active lifestyle.  She allowed me to use the Bio-Mat… her company and the sheets I laid upon (tie-dyed by Lisa herself) made for a wonderful experience…

During my afternoon with Lisa, I was able to capture pieces of what inspires and fuels her…

Dorothea (http://deliciouslyalive.com/2011/08/12/portrait-of-a-goddess/) suggested that I meet with Lisa for this Portrait of a Goddess post… and the entire experience has left me with a warm and full spirit. I am grateful to now be connected with these two empowered goddesses… and I feel honored to be able to gush about them on this site.

I spent time this afternoon with one of the most amazing women I know.

Dorothea is a counselor, a storyteller, an inspiration, a goddess, and best of all, she is someone who I connect with, purge with, and share with…always.

I was able to capture snapshots of Dorothea’s essence through an impromptu photo-shoot today.

The goddess herself…

Close-up on the shoes (they were painted by another goddess, Josie)

accessories…

A reminder…

Handmade by her son, Justin, a place for creative treasures to be kept…

Shells turn a discarded beer bottle into beauty… and the mermaid, a symbol of rebirth/home…

Dorothea with her sons, Joe and Justin, approximately 1984…

Another handmade gift from Justin. Dorothea told me that the words he burned into the wood just poured out of him in that order…

Two divine goddesses… Dorothea in the reflection and Artemis on the wall.  Also, a reminder of her connection with the bowed instrument…

…and her giving nature, expressed through these thoughtful gifts she gave to me today… (they are magnets! :) )
